Located just 40 kilometers south of Urumqi city, Chaiwobao Lake lies within the Tian Shan canyon on the way to Turpan. To its south are towering mountains, their snow-capped peaks reflecting brilliantly. North of the lake stands the Chaiwobao Forest Farm. The eastern shore of the lake is dotted with earthen mounds, the ancient homes of nomadic tribes from the Han and Jin dynasties. Spanning 28 square kilometers, the lake’s mirror-like waters offer a clear reflection. Rich in aquatic life, the lake has fish, and its shores are lush with reeds. In recent years, a large number of crabs have been introduced to the lake. Come autumn, these crabs are at their fattest, providing a delightful treat for visitors. For recreational purposes, the lake offers boat rides, swimming pools, fishing zones, and relaxation lounges, making it a newly established scenic spot in Urumqi.

The surroundings are adorned with white salt crystals, and nearby, massive mounds of salt create a visually striking panorama.
